About Castle Crafted

Castle Crafted was born out of the necessity of Self-care and Science. I'm Monica, and I daylight as a Quality Control Microbiologist. That means I work with bacteria all day in the lab. Part of good lab practice is to make it a habit to wash your hands frequently after working with anything biohazardous (aka germs/chemicals). That on top of the COVID pandemic, I was washing my hands more than ever to stay safe. Unfortunately the effective but harsh soaps I was using was drying out my hands like crazy. Having to stay home when I'm not at work also meant I needed to find a new creative hobby. I needed to find something that allowed me to create things, but also practical things. Cue in: Soapmaking. Early 2021, I fell in the rabbit hole of how soap was made and all the science behind it, using butters and oils that were good for my skin. Even better, I found that I could make the chemical reaction into something pretty and fun! The best part was that I could make them smell like whatever I wanted. After several months of experimenting and testing in my "soap lab" studio, I came up with a few formulas that didn't make my skin feel tight or "squeaky clean" after cleansing. So I shared my new finds, and my family and friends loved it! Then I ventured into home fragrances with wax melts, adding to the overall self-care routine.
