About Mama Kat's

Mama Kat's is a one woman designed, owned and operated business that Katherine Bender started and runs in Hot Springs, NC. She started studying plants and their amazing healing properties about 12 years ago. She most loves the weeds that grow wild right here at our feet in Western NC. Every Spring she and her sons set out to harvest these amazing weeds (chickweed, stinging nettles, plantain and usnea are four of our favorites! even though usnea is really a lichen) and tries to make the most of them by using them in every way possible from eating fresh (not nettles! but steamed is yummy) as a daily tonic, to infusing in vinegar (food as medicine) or infuses in oil to make into salves, balms or body butter. The more she got to know plants, the more she wanted to use them to keep her family healthy or help mend the scrapes, bumps and bruises or nurture all of us back to good health. Mama Kat's grew from her studies, plant walks, spring harvests, desire and passion. High quality ingredients are most important to her. Chemical-free, certified naturally grown, or certified organic, and good business ethics are all very important. She sources locally as well, when available to make this product line. Read their story
