About The Ash House Soap Studio

The Ash House Soap Studio & Refillery is a mom-owned small business from Ohio. Our name comes from the history of soap making, when people would use small brick buildings called ash houses to store their ashes over the winter. In the spring, the ashes were soaked with water creating a natural form of lye called potash and then would be mixed with oils and fats to create soap. After wanting to live a more sustainable lifestyle, Jen wanted to add a plastic free dish soap bar to her previous retail store. With no luck finding a bar that suited her standards that was also affordable for her customers she decided to create her own. From that day on, it become a a love story between maker and soap. Our soaps are made free of palm oil, synthetic detergents, colors, or fragrances. They are made with quality essential oils and natural oils and butters in the traditional cold process fashion. Inspired by nature and handcrafted using ingredients both local and from small businesses where possible. Our shea butter is sourced from Fair Trade certified company that provides jobs and a healthy work environment for women in Africa. We carry a variety of soaps, most of which are vegan but some are made with small farm raised products such as goat milk and honey. We strive to be a plastic free shipping company and ship with recycled boxes or box filler when available as a way to save on one-time packaging use. Read their story
