In Februrary of 2020, I went to a Christian women's conference here in Terre Haute. One of the speakers said something along these lines: "Imagine someone gives you a Christmas gift. What do you do with it? You open it. You use it. You wouldn't set it to the side and never open the gift, right? Well, God has given you each a gift, as well. Have you opened and used the gift that God has given you, or have you set it to the side, unopened." Wow. I had never thought about it from that perspective before. So in the following week, I asked God to show me what gift He had given me that I hadn't been using. At first, I didn't really hear anything from Him. But one day, I was shopping at Hobby Lobby and I happened to go down an aisle that I hadn't been down before. I stumbled upon these blank wood slices. I thought to myself, "What in the world would people do with these?" And I gently felt the Holy Spirit tell me, "paint them". So I took the leap - I bought a bunch of wood slices, went home, and painted. And painted. And painted. Eventually I had 15 pieces painted and decided to open an Etsy shop. This shop means so much more to me than just making sales. Every time I receive an order, I'm filled with joy because I KNOW that the customer is going see the Word of God. Not only that, those handling the package will see the Word, too (I write scripture on the box). Painting has brought me peace. Painting the Word of God has brought me joy.
