About Astro West

Astro West is owned and run by Marc Tanjeloff, a third generation mineral dealer and collector. His grandfather Julio Tanjeloff turned Astro Minerals into a lavish 16,000 square foot gallery showcasing items from all over the world, from fine minerals to African art, created the periodical Mineral Digest, and was the first person to bring the mineral tanjeloffite – more commonly known as tanzanite – to the United States. Marc’s venture Astro West pays tribute to his grandfather. After helping to curate some of the world’s foremost mineral collections – including those of Marc Weill, Lida Hill, and Chris Burch – Marc went into mining with Burch in Tanzania, where the two bought land and built a company to mine for sphene. In 2015, a son on the way inspired Marc to expand the family business to a new location on the West side that brings his discerning eye and passion for fine minerals and mineral décor to every customer and every piece.
