About Makkin
Makkin started as a question: what if a construction toy didn't tell you what to build? I'm Brady, a maker and manufacturer based in Kelowna, BC. I've spent over 7 years creating everyday products from recycled plastic in my own studio, and somewhere along the way I started wondering why no toy had ever given kids the same open-ended freedom I found in making things with my hands. Makkin is my answer. Nuts, bolts, brackets, hinges, and pulleys - all printed from recycled plastic and made locally - designed to connect to any cardboard. The box your cereal came in. The tube from your paper towel roll. Whatever's in your recycling bin. It's part engineering system, part artistic toolkit, and entirely open-ended. Kids who want to build machines can build machines. Kids who want to build something expressive and beautiful can do that too. There's no wrong way to use Makkin. In fact, the best builds we've seen have come from kids who threw the instructions out entirely. We're also building a universe around Makkin - adventure journal instruction sets written as stories from the expeditions of Professor Makkin, an inventor with too many ideas and not enough time. Launched in November 2025, Makkin is already selling in over 15 countries. We recently supplied Whangārei Art Museum in New Zealand for a dedicated cardboard exhibit, and we're just getting started. Every order is packed by hand in our Kelowna studio by a real person who genuinely cares whether you love it.
