Doyinsola Afolabi is a self-made young business woman. She always had a passion for makeup and art. Due to unemployment rise in Nigeria at the time, there was a huge surge in the number of makeup artists. She also picked up the crafts a side gig, there, she experienced the difficulty in starting out a makeup business. Oil prices plunged, exchange rate was high, hence importation became expensive. Makeup products were pricey, and hard to get into the country. Then she thought, since everyone was becoming a Makeupartist, someone had to make the products available. She began to focus on production, rather than the artistry arm of makeup. After enough research and a few transactions, she decided to quit her day job. On her final day at her work place, she received a gift card from her employer for a well-established makeup brand as a farewell present. She went to the makeup store, unfortunately, she was unable to purchase the most affordable item in the store using the gift card. The next makeup store she went into, did not have makeup products applicable for her skin tone. These were eye-opening moment for Doyinsola and she realized people in her community could not afford to purchase makeup from established brands.
