Apango is a nomadic brewery from Bordeaux that offers craft beers with exotic flavors and Malagasy and Indian Ocean gastronomic influences. They are brewed in part with red rice from Madagascar, which gives them an original floral sweetness. In April 2021, Red Rice Ale was doubly rewarded: • Silver medal at the Lyon International Competition in the category best beer of the “Pale Ale” style. • Silver medal at the France Beer Challenge in the category “Wheat beer and other cereals”. In 2022, two new recipes are added to the permanent range: • MAFANA IPA: An IPA-style beer infused with Mafane brede flowers. • AMBER RICE ALE: A caramelized amber with notes of exotic fruits. Apango® beer is inspired by the popular Malagasy drink: ranonampango, which is the caramelized rice juice at the bottom of the pan. The brewing process is inspired by the traditional Japanese method of brewing sake and that used to prepare ranon-ampango. We use rojomena, an ancient variety of Malagasy rice from a cross between a Japanese rice and an African wild rice. Since red is considered a noble color, Malagasy kings and queens reserved this type of rice for prestigious guests. It is the perfect fusion between the popular Malagasy drink and the international popular drink.
