Hi, I’m Richard Bonasoro Jr.—chef, gardener, and founder of Boston Soap Company. My journey started in the kitchens of the Four Seasons Boston, but my passion for old-world craftsmanship and clean living took root in a backyard garden in Revere, MA. What began as “The Backyard Project”—my rebellion against GMOs and processed food—grew into a vibrant online community. I turned my yard into an organic oasis, sharing recipes, gardening tips, and more with over 10,000 followers. I was fermenting kombucha, canning, making hot sauce—and eventually, soap from garden-grown lemon verbena and organic oils. Backyard Soap Company was born in 2012. At the Four Seasons, I brought that same garden-to-table spirit to the rooftop garden and beehives, swapping fruit baskets for handmade soaps. But after a serious accident in 2015, I lost my job—and gained the freedom to fully pursue my calling. I sold soap at local markets, pedicabbed through Boston, and finally felt free. In 2021, I met Heather—an award-winning designer and the love of my life. Together, we rebranded, expanded into candles and skincare, and opened a studio in East Boston. Boston Soap Company was born. Our latest line, Massachusetts Grown, Boston Made, features tallow soaps made with local suet and goats milk from over a dozen MA farms. Every bar reflects our commitment to sustainability, tradition, and transparency. This isn’t just soap. It’s a story. And we’re just getting started.Read their story
