About Friends in the Leaves

Friends in the Leaves started in 2008, when I decided that I wanted to create handmade toys using beautiful fabrics. Over time, those toys inspired me to start sketching little illustrations of them as characters. Though the toys are no longer part of my practice, they still hold a special place in my heart and their whimsiness and quirkiness continue on in all the illustrations I make today. All the products I sell are handmade by me (except for the picture book!) in my home studio here in Tasmania. I have always loved making things with my hands, and although I no longer make toys, I find joy and comfort in the painting process. And being able to turn simple things such as paper into useful and beautiful objects with my art on them brings me a lot of happiness. I strive to be as eco responsible as I can in my practice. My product packaging contains no plastic; instead I use paper when necessary, and biodegradable cellophane bags made from wood for my greeting cards and prints. I also aim to produce as little waste as possible when making products. If any plastic is used to send your order, it is likely being reused from an order I have received myself.Read their story
