Our Story In 1997, talented artist Gleb Mitropolsky founded Cape Fish Cards & Souvenirs after an inspiring journey to South Africa, where he was deeply moved by its stunning nature and colors. From 2000 to 2014, a network of small creative stores called “Skvorechnik” (The Birdhouse) brightened shopping centers in Kyiv, Ukraine. These cozy spots stood out for their vibrant handmade decor, quality, and artistic spirit. In 2014, Gleb, together with partners Ivan, Oleksiy, and me (Oleksandra), brought our creations online — opening shops on Etsy and Amazon Handmade. Our wooden biplanes and textile hot air balloons quickly won the hearts of customers across Europe and the United States, becoming our signature pieces. By 2019, we launched another Etsy store with airplane cake toppers, which also became a success. When war came to our homeland in 2022, we faced many challenges — but we never stopped creating. I relocated to the United States, where together with Gleb we continue our beloved craft, offering our handmade decor to local shops and customers. Our production proudly remains in Ukraine, where our team keeps crafting each item by hand with care, love, and dedication.
