About Silvia K Ceramics

I’m Silvia Kamodyová, a ceramic designer based in Brighton, UK. I founded my studio in 2012 after completing a Master of Design in Ceramics and Visual Research at the University of Brighton. My work offers a contemporary take on traditional crockery; functional ceramic pieces with clean forms and carefully balanced colours. Much of my inspiration comes from the colours of embroidery found in Slovak folk costumes. I interpret these traditional palettes using both vibrant and muted tones to create distinctive, modern ceramics. Each piece is handmade in-house using techniques such as slip casting, press moulding, and hump moulding. My designs are known for their minimalist decoration on fine terracotta forms, simple strokes, colour blocks, and quiet detail. As I work on my own, I choose to collaborate only with selected stockists whose values align with mine. This ensures a thoughtful approach to distribution and helps me avoid over saturating the market, allowing each collection to remain special and true to its intent. Over the years, I’ve received recognition including the Elle Decoration Design Award and the New Designers Award. I’m a member of the Crafts Council and a Master Artisan with the Michelangelo Foundation. In 2023, I was invited to design for Habitat’s 60th Anniversary Collection, collaborating with a Portuguese artisan factory. For me, ceramics is a way to honour tradition through craftsmanship while creating objects that feel contemporary, useful, timeless.Read their story
