Let me tell you about a dog named Rover. Before Rover came into my life, she had been adopted by a previous owner to be an outdoor farm dog. But Rover wanted to be inside with people, and that was how she came to be re-homed with me. At 70 pounds (plus fluff), Rover was the largest dog I had ever had. It was hard to find things for her to wear to express her personality. She shook out hair bows and didn’t like head wear. Clothing was never big enough. So Rover got bandanas—one for every holiday or occasion and one in every colour. She was stylin’. (Plus they helped with the drool.) Rover and I had a wonderful dog-mom relationship. During the early days of the pandemic, I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do next. I knew I wanted to start something in the pet industry, so I asked myself, “What was missing from my life with Rover? Then I thought, “In matching accessories, we would have been the envy of the neighbourhood! The best looking b!*ches on the block!” And that was the birth of The Dog Shop. The Dog Shop’s mission is to recognize the dog-human relationship and celebrate it through fashion. Right now we offer 3 items and cards, but I have BIG plans.
