Growing up in Southeast Los Angeles, Rosa struggled with crippling anxiety and depression without being able to identify them. Even after completing her Master’s degree in Public Administration at NYU, she had yet to receive a medical diagnosis for a mental health disorder. It was through her graduate school experience, combined with the adversities she faced as a first-generation Latina from a single-parent household with a low socioeconomic background—and the deep-rooted stigma around mental health within the Latinx community—that she realized she was not alone in these struggles. Educated Chola is a Latina-owned lifestyle brand based in Los Angeles with a bold and meaningful mission: breaking the stigma around mental health.
