About SeaChange

These portraits of sea creatures are not what they first seem: they’re hand-sewn from unrecyclable plastic film. Kat Owens creates where art, science, and advocacy collide. A National Geographic Explorer and Fulbright Nehru fellow, she has traced the world’s plastic pollution—from Connecticut’s rivers to Kerala’s beaches to the frozen cliffs of Svalbard. Her art is stitched from what our world leaves behind. In 2021, she launched Entangled and Ingested, an artistic investigation that transforms unrecyclable film plastic into life-sized portraits of animals harmed by pollution. The largest pieces are co-created in public workshops! Now, her board books bring that same spirit to young readers, filled with bright, intimate portraits of the animals we love. Perfect for the little explorer, environmentalist, or artist in your life. Listen to Alec Baldwin interview Kat on his Here's the Thing podcast. https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-heres-the-thing-with-alec-23562128/episode/kat-owens-raises-environmental-awareness-through-314329377/
