Borgo Solaio mainly deals with the creation of bags. It was founded in 2014, and then established in 2016 as an artisan company, founded by Sabrina Mattei, artisan, creator and maker of its products. It is a project that draws inspiration from Tuscany, taking as a model the craftsmanship of excellence that, during the 1950s, gave birth to Florentine high fashion. The bags, woven with jute ribbon and other materials, recall a time when “things were made to last.” The research and combination of recycled materials with unique and precious fabrics and the study of weaves are the peculiar characteristics of the bag line, which includes trunk, shoulder and clutch models . Sabrina starts from the design idea, drawing a sketch of the future bag, and then moves on to imagine the future final realization by creating a prototype in real size. Once the model has been developed, it is then declined according to the materials that the artisan finds from time to time, thus giving rise to “unique models in series”. The materials mainly used in the collections are jute belts, wool and other yarns, a selection of satins, velvets and other fabrics, leather. The jute and the leather are cut and woven by hand, the models in wool yarn and other textiles are made manually using the techniques of traditional tailoring.
