Safehouse Foods was born out of necessity, dedication, and the belief that everyone deserves food they can trust. For years, founder Mark Pleis served gluten-free meals from scratch in his Iowa restaurant, T.E. Alderman’s—a 1920s-themed safe haven where customers with celiac disease, allergies, or sensitivities could finally eat without fear. In a world full of hidden gluten, cross-contamination, and confusing labels, his kitchen became something rare: a true safe house. Every mix, every noodle, every biscuit, every dessert came from one guiding principle: “If I can’t serve it safely in my own kitchen, I won’t put it in a bag and sell it.” Safehouse Foods grew from that promise. Today, we handcraft gluten-free mixes and foods that actually work—not gritty, gummy, or flavorless, but warm, comforting, reliable, and delicious. Our products are made in small batches, using ingredients you can pronounce, in a dedicated gluten-free facility where safety, transparency, and quality matter more than shortcuts. Our customers aren’t just shoppers—they’re families trying to feed their kids safely, travelers who can’t risk the wrong bite, people rediscovering bread after years without it, and anyone who wants real food made with real care.
