The Baj company was founded in Milan in 1768, and was brought to its maximum development by Giuseppe Baj at the end of the 19th and early 1900s. Giuseppe Baj had the merit of making Milanese panettone known all over the world with exports to the 5 continents. Panettone Baj, which according to Gambero Rosso, is the oldest panettone brand in Milan, was particularly appreciated by the Futurists, in particular by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, who mentions it in his works literary. The headquarters of the ancient Baj Panettoni factory was located in Via Santa Radegonnda at the corner of Piazza del Duomo in Milan. Baj panettone was awarded multiple awards at the Universal Exhibitions in Milan and Vienna, in 1881, and in 1906. The brand suffered a backlash during the period of autarchy and during the two World Wars, a period in which the activity was considerably reduced until it closed. In 2016, Cesare and Tomaso Baj, Giuseppe's descendants, reopened the business by entrusting the recipes to one of the leading Italian experts in white art. This is how the Baj Panettone is reborn. Historical research, together with the discovery in the family attics of numerous advertising finds from the ancient Baj Confectionery, has allowed the production of a panettone with a highly prized historical booklet that tells the rebirth of a brand that made Milan famous in the world. In 2020 the Baj Panettone wins the “Arts and Culture Award” as the best Italian panettone.
