About Monkey By The Sea

Hi there, Monkey by the Sea was born with the idea of helping small factories function through the pandemic, using apparel manufacturers excess fabric to help reduce land fill and waste and to support causes close to my heart, orphan children, orphaned older people and street dogs. Who are we though? We are a couple in a long distance relationship living on two separate islands (Sri Lanka and Staten Island) on opposite sides of the world, and so we call ourselves Monkey by the sea. I worked for 20 years in the apparel industry including at the Victoria Secrets office in NYC, but moved back for 365 days of sunshine to Sri Lanka. While working in the local industry with the pandemic disrupting all our lives that so many of us we needed to re-invent who we are and focus on what's important. I quit my job as a Product/Design manager and decided I had to take a stand to do better for myself, my friends, my country and my world. Meanwhile across the globe in Staten Island my partner who is backs us with IT support and is my sounding board.Read their story
