“1001 spices” is the spice factory in Hamburg. We love and we live spices! We were all the more stunned that pepper was served as a dead gray powder in shakers even in upscale restaurants around twenty years ago. And the word “spice mix” triggered a skeptical face in response at best among chefs. “It has to be different,” we thought. And we started. In 2003, my mother Bettina Matthäi and I founded “1001 spices”. The goal: to show customers what spices can really do. And because the aroma reaches its peak at the moment of grinding, the task was clear: we avoid long storage times and instead produce fresh produce in small batches. And this is done exclusively according to our own proven recipes, with selected raw materials and elaborate manual work. Because only by grinding, sieving and cutting can you get the most out of spices. A lot has happened since then. A small, fine team was formed around our mother-daughter duo, and our factory was able to firmly establish itself in the pleasure scene — even beyond national borders. Our small spice cosmos never stands still — whether it's product development or seminars, product range expansion or private label concepts for selected customers. We love to keep moving. We only adhere to one thing uncompromisingly and stubbornly: always delivering the highest quality.
