We are Lotus Sky- a women-led bracelet movement where "pretty" meets "powerful"! Founded by best friends, Sarah & Sangye, the beadwork bracelet core of our project was forged while the two shared a makeshift tent following the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. Living outside for 8 months, they brought some bracelets from their storefront to work on designs and distract themselves from the rolling aftershocks. Soon a small group of women gathered, interested in these little beaded bracelets. Truly speaking for the whole group, one woman said, "I need something to do with my hands, where I can put my focus and energy, even when the ground is shaking." Following their hearts and realizing the craft could be therapeutic, Sarah & Sangye started small training sessions. During a difficult time, women came together to celebrate creativity and find nourishment in sisterhood. The lotus flower is not only the symbol of Lotus Sky, but is an apt symbol of the unexpected path to beauty that every social enterprise takes, reminding us to find the opportunity in the constraint, to find growth in the difficulty. The organic way in which beadwork bracelets became our main product speaks to one of our core values: Business can and should exist to serve the people at the heart of it, not the other way around. Now with a growing team of over 150 women, we are proud to create brand new innovative designs every single week in color combinations meant to startle, inspire, and transport!
