About Bad Kerning Games
Kerning is an aspect of typography design that describes how close each letter in a piece of text is to its neighbors. The founder, Sean, thought it would be really funny to name a YouTube channel Bad Kerning, but always have the lettering at least mostly properly kerned. Bad Kerning started life as a YouTube channel focusing on a few friends just having a good time. The channel saw no success and quickly petered out after only a few months. Over time a new idea would bloom. Sean and Clover played a game of Cards Against Humanity with a group of Clover's friends one night, but Sean was dissatisfied with how his cards were being read, as well as how often an inside joke or overly grotesque card would win. If only Sean were in control of how his cards were read, how they were portrayed. Sean racked his brain the next day coming up with the best way to do this in a game as simple as Cards Against Humanity. The best way for the players to sell their cards to the judge was to... Sell their cards to the judge. Enter the pitching mechanic. This put players in control of their own entries to be judged and create laughs and memories along the way! Sean brought the idea to Clover at a work lunch the following day, and they began working on a prototype. Sell Outs at is a parody of capitalism and hustle culture, a statement on the transactionalization of every day life in America and in a way it reflects the lack of truth in advertising because you can say anything to get the sale.
