About Beastie and Bone

Beastie and Bone celebrates the flora and fauna of North America both past and present, and the connection between the wellbeing of humans and the wild, by combining paleontology, conservation, and memento mori (Latin for “remember death”). Artworks are all created by Stacia Baldwin. These range from digital illustrations, to linocut prints on renewable papers, to entirely handcrafted “paper taxidermies” and “paper entomologies”, hand cut from recycled cotton papers and mulberry papers, and detailed with ink, acrylic, gouache, and watercolor. Though Stacia currently lives and works out of Knoxville, TN, her art education and varied adventures brought her all across the United States over the last fifteen years. This exposure to widely different ecosystems and local culture showed her how unique each is, and yet, the same. Tie in reconciling with chronic mental and physical health conditions, and Stacia’s work is representative of the celebration of the cycle of life, constant hope for a better tomorrow, and a compassionate approach to the dark and difficult.
