Follow The Magpie is a story-led design studio founded by me, Kayla. I create small-batch brass brooches and brass wall hangings designed as modern talismans, objects to wear, keep, or live with. Each piece begins with a symbol or idea. Influenced by folklore and by the design practice of distilling meaning into simple forms, I translate stories and concepts into contemporary talismans. Each one is accompanied by a short note explaining its symbolism, so object and meaning exist together. I work in solid brass for its quiet honesty. Warm, golden and enduring, it is a material that changes with time. As brass reacts to air and touch, it develops a natural patina that records its environment and the life around it. Over time each piece becomes unique to the person or place that keeps it. My work sits between jewellery and object. Brass talismans that can be worn as brooches or kept as wall pieces, small symbolic pieces that bring meaning into everyday life. The name Follow The Magpie comes from folk tradition and the bird’s instinct to gather what glints, collecting the precious, the curious and the overlooked.Read their story
