Our small-batch, handcrafted finishing salts are the product of alchemy and history. Founder Karen Starns comes from a family of makers. Grandpa was a baker and a carpenter. Grandma made grape jelly from backyard vines. Her dad spent years perfecting elephant ear pastries and in pursuit of the ideal pizza crust. Now, it is her turn to bring something into the world that is perfectly delicious and exceptional in its simplicity. House Arrest Goods was born in 2020, when like many people Karen made bread. Who didn’t? Crackers, which turned out beautifully. Lovingly tended micro batches of bitters. Then something magic happened when she began working with salt. Tinkering with and carefully balancing flavors has resulted in winning combinations - including our signature Emerald Finishing Salt which has become a permanent fixture in many kitchens. Every aspect of this brand is deeply connected with our founder - love of food and drink; art and artisanship; collage and story; subtle humor and layered meaning.
