The idea of self-care is so popular these days that it’s almost a cliché, and because of that, it’s has become very hard to define. I like to tell people to imagine that you’re in charge of an adorable toddler. You might give that toddler a delicious snack or let them watch a program on television, but treating that cutie-pie to something special is not deep care. True care involves nutritious foods, regular naps to keep them from melting down, creating healthy routines, lots of play, solid boundaries, and the kind of nurturing and love that helps them feel safe in the world as they grow, explore, and learn. What we do for toddlers is what we should be doing for ourselves. I’ve tried to deliver that message in a beautiful and soothing way via the card deck I’ve created. The cards are faster and easier to use than a book. They are flexible and can be applied to everyone. As a neurofeedback practitioner who works on a daily basis with people who are stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, and even traumatized, I love making a positive impact on people’s lives.
