About Clémence Birot

During my beginnings in Denmark, I discovered a design practice closely linked to craftsmanship. The latter plays an avant-garde role. Motivated by a free artistic practice and rich in his know-how, he dictates the exploratory and innovative dynamic in the design process. So in the design studios for which I worked, I collaborated frequently with craftsmen for product development. Their know-how has led me to the constant search for a unique result where the material is respected, sometimes defied but always highlighted because it occupies this central place throughout the project. Back in France, I kept this collaborative approach with craftsmen. At a time when the production of objects is done en masse, its origin is often blurred, far from our territories and our values. Today, I want to go further in this process of valuing the intelligence of the hand and unique know-how, while producing ethically and locally. It is in this spirit that I am developing a range of objects in small series with clean shapes, through which I claim this attachment to natural and sustainable materials, as well as to a timeless design far from industrial standardization. All these objects are thus made in Europe, as close as possible to the production of raw materials, by craftsmen with exceptional know-how.Read their story
