Merci's interest in fashion began when she was working as a Marketing Manager for Mattel and travelled to Italy while on vacation in the summer of 2007. She discovered the beautiful craftsmanship of Italian leather handbags and went back to Italy to research several Italian pelleterias and in 2011 the Merci Marie Italian Leather Handbag brand was established. In 2023, Merci Marie introduced a product line extension, an eco-friendly, handmade clothing line crafted in Italy by small factories that are primarily family owned. Timeless style is blended with sustainable value to create pieces that are elegant and ethical yet comfortable. Based in Santa Monica, California, Merci Marie ships from the USA and is an AAPI woman-owned brand. Merci Borden, the designer and founder holds a BA in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from LMU and an MBA from USC.
