Broad Sides started as a collaboration between poet Dana Koster and artist Chelsea America and has turned into a life-sustaining creative outlet for both of them. They met when Dana's oldest child and Chelsea's youngest attended preschool together. Chelsea and Dana explored many of the same themes (fairy tales, the perils of domesticity) and decided to see what they could create together. All prints and postcards are collaborative, all stickers are Dana's designs designs alone. Dana Koster earned her English degree from UC Berkeley and MFA in poetry from Cornell University. From 2011-2013, she was a Wallace Stegner Fellow. She lives in Modesto, California with her husband and two children. Dana's poems have appeared in EPOCH, Indiana Review, Southern Humanities Review, The Cincinnati Review and many others. Her first book, Binary Stars, was published by Carolina Wren Press in 2017. Chelsea América Torres is a San Francisco based artist with a focus in performance, video, and analog photography. Using the visual language of cartoons, and inspired by the narrative framework of children’s literature, Chelsea performs tasks and gestures within real and fabricated domestic environments. Chelsea is in her final year of the MFA program at San Francisco State University and lives in Potrero Hill with her three children.
