About Kilim & Loom

Kilim & Loom – A Life Woven in Threads Hello, I’m Sevilay, founder of Kilim & Loom — and if I say I was truly born into a world of rugs, I’m not exaggerating. My mother was tying knots on a loom while she was 9 months pregnant with me. I was born at home, and the very first thing I saw in life were the colorful, handwoven rugs that would go on to shape my destiny. I’m the third generation in my family to carry this tradition. My father was a rug producer, just like his father before him. In Anatolia, rugs weren’t just floor coverings — they were emotional expressions. A wedding meant fresh florals in vibrant colors. A secret love was whispered through patterns. For people too shy to speak their hearts, weaving became their voice. Though the weaving tradition has slowed down today, I couldn’t let it fade. I studied Traditional Turkish Arts and opened a small atelier, where I now revive these heirlooms in a new form. The vintage rugs I collect are decades old — each one telling a silent story from a forgotten village. And when time has worn them too thin to use as rugs, I transform their most beautiful parts into one-of-a-kind kilim pillows. Every item in my collection is made with love, history, and respect for the past. My work is not just about selling vintage pieces — it’s about continuing a legacy, woven through generations. Thank you for giving these stories a new home. — Sevilay Founder, Kilim & Loom
