Susan and Lauren Banks are a mother-daughter team who originate from the Midwest. After moving to Texas with her young children in 2013, Susan quickly fell in love with the rural Texas lifestyle. She loves watching animals in their natural habitat, and was impressed by the numerous types of deer. She learned that harvesting deer for the homestead led to more control of the food chain. Deer provides variety of things including meat, antlers, hide (for leather products), bones (tools, crafts, dog treats), and deer fat for cooking or rendering into tallow. Susan adheres to and encourages responsible deer management principles. Through homesteading, Susan embarked on her first attempt at candle-making. The challenge of crafting a candle that burned cleanly, lasted long, smelled wonderful, and was visually appealing led her through countless hours of experimentation, marked by both successes and failures. The contrast between city and country life highlighted for Susan the many benefits of rural living, particularly its tranquility and self-sufficiency. This inspiration led to the creation of Kaevia—a candle brand that blends nature with the qualities of a thoughtfully created candle (emphasizing clean ingredients). Kaevia is eco-friendly by offering specialty melt packaging, shopping bags, and shipping materials that are biodegradable and recyclable.
