Founders Kesang and Chimme are children of Tibetan refugees. The two sisters grew up in Nepal, were educated in Asia and America, and were inspired to start Padma Knits by strong family values. Padhma Knits is a Fair Trade Organization that empowers women in Nepal by providing them with opportunities. Inspired by indigenous motifs and crafts that have existed for centuries, our goal is to keep the tradition alive by re-crafting them through our knitting communities. Every fair-trade item from Padma Knits is created by Nepalese artisans who have complete autonomy over their working conditions. These artisans knit using traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations and are able to set their own schedule and wages. Our beautiful accessories not only keep the recipient warm, but you can also rest assured that your present is ethically sound. We believe incorporating a ‘giving component’ into our products adds a deeper level of human association. By combining women’s empowerment, skill development, economic freedom, and education, our product is a fusion of philanthropy and beautiful handiwork by artisans. Read their story
