About Sagarana Books

We are a woman-led business starting small, but with big dreams. When we started our family, we dreamed of finding Brazilian books to our children. However, we soon realized that this was not an easy feat. As a Brazilian-Swedish family living in Europe, we know that learning a minority language can be daunting, specially when you do not know exactly what to buy and where to start looking for books, activity books and other learning resources. We also know the importance of a heritage language. From family connection to everyday interactions in that country. From identity formation to cultural diversity. From academic performance to future business opportunities. So we decided to take on the challenge and work towards curating a selection of books in different languages, while continuously supporting the many multicultural and multilingual families living abroad, like ourselves. Sagarana is named after a book written by famous Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa. The name is a portmanteau of “saga” and “rana” (Tupi for “in the manner of”), translating as “similar to folk tales".
