About What a Date

In a world of overprocessed snacks and sugary shortcuts, What a Date offers something refreshingly real: a naturally sweet, nutrient-rich indulgence crafted by nature and perfected by hand. Our dates are grown in the Gulf and proudly produced in the UAE, where palms can live for a century. We work with two exceptional varieties: Khidri, soft and caramel-like, and Kholas, smaller but aromatic with honeyed notes. Each tree is hand-pollinated, its clusters thinned to just 16% to ensure bigger, richer fruit. Yields are lower than industrial farms—only 70–80 kilos per palm—but the flavour and quality are unmatched. As the fruit ripens, clusters are wrapped in cotton for protection and later handpicked using specialised equipment so no date ever touches the ground. After careful sun-drying, the fruit is hand-packed. Whether enjoyed plain or with our flavourful fillings—pistachio, caramelised pecan, candied orange peel—our dates are clean, soft, and never sticky. A satisfying indulgence that delivers natural energy without guilt. Sustainability is at the heart of our story: deep root systems reduce water use, and palm leaves and fallen fruit are composted with organic manure to enrich the soil. While not all filled varieties are certified organic, we’re always transparent about ingredients.
