About A RIVER

Founded A River in 2019, driven by a dream to flow between craft, collaboration, heritage, & newness. I'm Mahak Nyati, a textile designer from NIFT Gandhinagar (2017), born in India & now weaving stories across continents. My journey—learning, traveling—shaped a studio inspired by people, places, & textures. Like its namesake river, A River doesn't stay in one place. My path is guided by curiosity, not strict rules. From block, dabu, & batik printing to jamdani, tangaliya, & brocade, each craft taught me patience, place, & purpose. Rooted in heritage & inspired by movement, A River gathers stories, colors, & traditions. Our core: soft, hand-printed & handwoven textiles by Indian artisans using generational techniques. Each piece is thoughtful, slow, deeply personal—a memory preserved in fabric. For years, I designed quietly for global brands. Now, I bring those learnings to A River collections—pieces that feel like home, travel, & everything in between. Creations begin with artisans in Jaipur, where old-world techniques meet present-day rhythm. Fabric is shaped by care. My work carries fragments of time, touch, & tradition.
