About Gesche Santen - Unkraut in Aquarell

Watercolor artist from Northern Germany. Master in Landscape Ecology. My work celebrates the diversity of native wild plants – not the rare and spectacular, but the everyday plants right outside our door that are often overlooked. After studying landscape ecology, I quickly realized that a scientific approach alone was not enough to express my wonder at plant communities. This led to the creation of my "Painted Herbarium" – a growing collection of botanical watercolors that document native flora and tell their stories. For over 6 years, I have been teaching botanical painting online, inviting others to rediscover their surroundings through watercolor painting. My illustrations find meaning in the seemingly ordinary. They invite you to pause and appreciate the beauty right outside your own door.Read their story
