About Elissa Rua

Elissa Rua is a small Irish creative studio where art and everyday life meet. I’m Lisa Downes, the designer behind the brand. After working for many years in corporate design, I stepped away to raise my three children. During that time, I found myself returning to drawing, colour and pattern — and eventually realised I wanted to build something more personal and meaningful. My work is inspired mainly by nature: the colours, the rhythm, the tiny details you only notice when you slow down. I’ve always loved textiles, surface design and decorative arts, so creating prints for useful, everyday pieces felt like a natural fit. Every design begins as an artwork, and each product is made simply with the intention that it brings a bit of joy or beauty to someone’s home or daily routine. Elissa Rua is rooted in Ireland, and so much of my approach comes from that sense of place — a mix of storytelling, craft and an appreciation for things that feel personal and thoughtfully made. I create in small quantities and keep my collection curated, focusing on items that feel special, practical and considered. Thank you for taking the time to discover my work.
