The Artist Behind the Coasters Shayne McCarter, the founder of McCarter Coasters, has always been passionate about art. He specialized in oil paintings and illustrations throughout the 1980s. After graduating from the University of Memphis in 1986, he embarked on a career in product development and later became an art and production director for Carnevale Memphis. In the early 1990s, Shayne began showcasing and selling his hand-painted, three-dimensional sculptures at local craft fairs. In 1995, he created his first coaster design in response to a customer's request for a coaster to complement a custom-designed Memphis coffee mug. Today, McCarter Coasters designs and produces coasters in their dedicated facility and ships them to upscale gift shops across over 40 states.
