About The Slug And Kraken

Exploring everything from beneath the waves to elements and themes from land and sky, there's no end to inspiration that can be found in natures bountiful mysteries. Focusing on the weird and wonderful flora, fauna, and phenomena of this wild earth, The Slug and Kraken excels at celebrating the unique, off beat, and odd creatures that capture our hearts and imagination. Bringing science and whimsy together, I seek to enhance education and appreciation of the weird with scientific fact cards that accompany many of my creations. The Slug and Kraken came to life in early 2014, after I discovered the art form of Polymer Clay while playing with the kids I nannied. The pliant, colorful, 3D nature of the clay was a new and stirring form I quickly became obsessed with! With a passion for underwater life, many of the creations I produce are inspired by the ocean, such as my first clay creation ever, The Noble Sea Lemon Nudibranch. Many pieces are intended to reflect and bring awareness to the beautiful, but fragile worlds of the ocean. In 2017 I began to dabble in resin, which allowed me an oceanic transparency and lightness of materials that clay could not. As such, many of my original works have become the base of stronger, lighter, beautifully glass-like, durable resin pieces. Since then, I've begun to work in so many new media to make new treasures, that I'm a multi media shop with a little bit of everything! Read their story
