About Matka Pierogi
Matka means mother in Slovak and Polish. Growing up, making pierogi was a family affair. Every generation would have a hand in rolling the dough, peeling potatoes and pinching pierogi. Today we honor my Grandma T’s recipe with a California sensibility for farm freshness and creativity! Aka Matka, Taka Katka! (Like Mother, Like Daughter) What are pierogi? Pierogi (Polish plural for pierog) are a type of wheat based dumplings common in many Central and Eastern European countries including Poland, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine. Traditionally they are filled with potato and served alongside sour cream and caramelized onions. At Matka we offer traditional potato pierogi as well as fun new fillings based on what our friends are growing in Humboldt County, California.
