Our founder, Dr. Alpa Patel has over 15 years of clinical experience in a pediatric private practice and was a biochemist prior to getting her MD. When her sister begged for help with her toddler’s troubled skin, Dr. Patel started searching for skin care products that were both safe and effective; instead, she discovered that even “natural” products often contained unnecessary ingredients, which can cause irritation and worsen inflammation. Her own experience with chronic illnesses and her many years treating patients as a Pediatrician had taught her to be wary of products and ingredients that may do more harm than good. So she turned to botanicals and started mixing her own formulas in her home. She developed concoctions for different age groups, focusing on the specific skin problems that affect each generation. She primarily used naturally-derived ingredients, as well as, Ayurvedic ingredients and avoided all toxins. Eventually, with the encouragement of her sister (Hema Shah) and the support of her husband (Alkesh Patel, MD) she launched Luvanya.
