The Journey Life is a journey. Plata Sterling has evolved since 1995, through the life and journey of founder, Ken Newton. The journey began while teaching English in Mexico City. Little did Ken know that economic challenges in Mexico would re-direct his journey toward importing finished sterling silver jewelry and selling outside of bars in Ybor City and Florida beaches. The desire to take the journey to the next level, led Ken to Italy, Bali, and Thailand where he met and worked with artisans that, along with Mexican artisans, would make Plata’s creations for years to come. Each component Plata sterling jewelry is made to Plata specifics to assure quality and detail; assembly of finished designs happens here in our Florida home studio. As a true family business, Plata is in our second generation of family completing all tasks of design, assembly, invoicing, shipping, merchandising, and customer service.
