About Under the Tree

It all started under a mango tree in Northern Uganda; The dream of a better life, free from poverty and hopelessness. Mama Ketty dreamt of a day where she could lead her family and countless other families out of the cycle of poverty. She had a dream to create beautiful jewelry made from recycled paper. It was a simple dream, and yet powerful due to Mama Ketty understanding that following this dream would mean eliminating starvation, lack of clean water and lack of finances for medical care for her family. It would also mean the ability to pay school fees in order to send her children to school, further ending the ongoing cycle of poverty. Kelsey and Caylin traveled to Uganda from the United States in 2009 and connected with Mama Ketty's family. This relationship developed into the establishment of "Under the Tree" which now employs 50 women in Northern Uganda. Read their story
