SAWA SAWA means "it will be okay" in Swahili. We are a sustainable, ethically made, non-profit fashion brand in Austin Texas. All our products are handmade by artisan women in Kenya using ancient craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. Our mission is to empower the artisans make a sustainable, dignified income using skills in beading, weaving, basketry, art and more that have stood the test of time. They create earrings, bracelets, necklaces, bags, sandals and art using beads, leather and locally sourced plant fiber. All proceeds from our revenue funds women empowerment programs and menstrual hygiene kits for the girls. This is important because girls miss a week of school every month. By filling this pocket of need, they can have dignity during their period, get a consistent education and have a better chance in life. Our bags are AMAZING. They are handwoven using natural, organic, eco fiber sustainably harvested from the agave fiber. They are eco-friendly, bio-degradable, organic, durable, washable and empower the artisans. They are elegant, rich, textural, rustic and sturdy. We are black woman founded brand. Founded by Anne and Catherine with a passion to use fashion as a tool for change.
