Dr. John's candy was founded in 1995 by a dentist out of his home in Grand Rapids Michigan with the goal of providing his dental office patients with a sugar free treat, that tasted good, and that would actually help to prevent cavities when consumed. His patients loved the products and shared his products with neighbors and friends to the point that in 2013 Dr. John’s purchased a small factory to produce his products in volume and at that point he began selling his sugar free products via the internet. Mike and Patty McDonald’s investment group purchased the company in November of 2017. By June of 2018 they received their trademark on Dr. John’s Healthy Sweets, which is the first candy produced in America that carries the word “Healthy” in the brand name. Dr. John’s Healthy Sweets contain many key attributes that allowed us to receive the trademark approval. In October of 2021 Dr. John's received the 2021 Presidential "E" Award from the U.S Department of Commerce for Export Service to 10+ countries, for our sustained commitment to growth internationally.
