About LaLa Gallery

Angela Vinson is a Lafayette, Indiana-based artist and educator who has been designing, teaching, and making pottery since 2000. A graduate of the Herron School of Art, Angela maintains her studio practice while teaching pottery & running LaLa Gallery, a community pottery studio. In 2020, Angela moved into a home studio surrounded by a large yard, a transition that deeply influenced her creative direction. Today, her work moves between two distinct, nature-inspired paths: The Botanical Studies: These pieces feature literal, detailed drawings of Indiana native plants. By cultivating a "living library" of flora just steps from her pottery wheel, Angela uses her design background to celebrate the organic shapes of the Midwest landscape. The Meditative Series: In contrast to her botanical work, this collection focuses on atmospheric gradients and "asemic writing"—expressive, wordless marks carved into the clay. Her latest Golden Hour series is a study of the horizon, using sgraffito carving to create a rhythmic, tactile experience. Every piece is hand-thrown on the pottery wheel and hand-decorated in her studio. Angela’s work is a reminder that we are constantly surrounded by beauty, and that the simple tools of color and line are all we need to express our inner connection to the world around us.
