About Close Call Studio

Close Call Studio is a one-woman, full-time artist studio based in Baltimore, MD since 2012. Amanda Adams (she/they) is a multi-disciplinary artist and podcaster behind Close Call Studio. She earned her BFA in Photography and Bookmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art which is where she started Close Call Studio and has been exploring new ways of creating art ever since. She spends time outside the studio caring for her ever-growing plant collection and garden, being overly affectionate to her reluctant shop cat Brussels Sprout, and usually reading a handful of books at a time. Close Call Studio is a fiber art, photo, video and illustration practice started in 2012 that creates work designed to bring playfulness, joy and humor to the home (and cats!) with a focus on play, nature, ethical business practices and sustainability. Everything is made by hand from original designs and all materials are recycled/reclaimed (even the felt used is made out of post consumer plastic bottles) and vegan. In 2017 Close Call Studio started donating 10% of all sales to varying non-profits and mutual aids working in environmental issues and sustainability, social justice, animal welfare and local community support.

I was super excited to have these brilliant esoteric designs on bandanas. I am thrilled with the intricacy and design on them, but the fabric of the bandanas is really flimsy, lightweight and see through. I hesitate to use these as a bandana, because they will eventually need to be washed, and I can't imagine these will hold up in the washing machine. I've included an image, holding up the bandana, and you can not only see the light, but the color of the walls and floors, through the fabric.

The bandanas are a lightweight cotton and breathable by design for comfort. It's true many fabrics including lightweight cottons can be seen through when you hold them up to light but they also hold up great with time and use. I've been making these bandanas for years, I wear them and put them through my washer/dryer regularly. They start out a lil stiff from printing but get softer with use and I've never seen any fall apart.
