In 2013, Kristen Bell, Ryan Devlin, Todd Grinnell, and Ravi Patel founded This Saves Lives with a mission to end severe acute malnutrition in children across the globe. The company's initial vision began during a service trip that Ryan and Todd took to Liberia. They visited a local community and found themselves face-to-face with suffering children. As the deadliest form of malnutrition, the children suffering from severe acute malnutrition aren't simply hungry. They lack the necessary nutrition that their bodies desperately need. Fueled to take action, Ryan and Todd found out about Plumpy'Nut®, a Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) specifically formulated for the nutritional rehabilitation of children from six months of age and adults suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Their discovery led to the creation of our giving model. Ryan and Todd met with their friends Kristen and Ravi and began creating the first recipes for This Saves Lives bars in Ravi's kitchen. Together as a team, they developed the first delicious snack bar recipes and the practical one-for-one approach—that for every purchase, they'd donate a packet of Plumpy'Nut.Read their story
