We desired a product which was pure and made from plant and seed oils, sourced directly from cooperatives, and left our skin feeling nourished and silky, without feeling greasy or oily. We began to work on our first product, a General Salve. After 18 iterations, we had created what we envisioned: a sustainable and ethically sourced, naturally processed, utilitarian, unisex, beautifully designed, 100% plant and seed oil based semi-solid. We created both our brand, Samuel Ethnobotanics so we could ensure radical transparency in ingredient sourcing, could guarantee a product without fillers or chemicals, and to fine tune the formulation based on performance of skin feel, above all else. With our brand, we desire to bring to people many different traditional and ethnobotanical relationships, from all around the world. Our goal is to push the category towards pure and more natural products that draw on the wisdom of nature rather than the ingenuity of man. Our intention is to continue developing and highlighting a unique network of partnerships with cooperative growers and ultimately to make them stakeholders in the company. We have started and continue to build a community of cooperatives to connect the seeds, the harvesters, and the people.
