In the fall of 2017, I was drawing a bath after a hard day's work at my 9-to-5 job. As I waited for the tub to fill, I started reading the product label on the soap I'd purchased, and was shocked: It was filled to the brim with harsh detergents better suited to a dry cleaner's, and the packaging was an unnecessary mess of complex industrial plastics. Intrigued – and more than a little disturbed – I investigated the other soaps and other products around my house, and found the same culprits lurking in every bar, bottle, and candle. That's when I decided to start Tōza. My handmade, artisanal soap, candle, and cosmetic recipes are free from plastics and are 100% natural – just like the skin we're in. I use organic ingredients and essential oils to craft every product, and I ship each order with biodegradable and reused packaging to ease the burden on mother Earth. I haven't used a single drop of palm oil since I started on this journey. All the big soap and candle manufacturers (and too many of the smaller ones) cut corners by exploiting this natural resource, which has contributed to massive deforestation around the globe. I'm constantly researching and implementing new, more sustainable methods to make the best soaps possible, in part because I want to leave behind a better world for my son, and also because it's the right thing to do. Good for you, good for the planet. That's the ethos of Tōza, and that's the promise I make to you.
